Racing along a narrow slice of beach
on this wild western Irish coast,
I’m balanced easily on the broad back
of my horse, a shaggy welsh cob/shire.
We gallop steadily, marking the
firm sand with huge hoof prints.
Unruly clouds sidestep across the sky
throwing bits of sunlights and shadow at us.
Deep green hills blurr by
spread out like a huge piece
of folded velvet
thrown casually
over the land.
We chase noisy gulls.
Splash happily through the surf.
Like the tide the ecstasy
of this moment
is fleeting
comes rushing in
blood and breath unused to such
passion and we
God's creatures… mere mortals
are blessed.
To have touched this soil.
To have breathed this air.
To have felt this life.
